Depends why you've been stopped and if it goes on to a stop & search. Stops are usually done under S1 of PACE (but can also be done under anti terror or anti drugs legislation) and you might be asked where you're going, what you have with you etc. You'll also usually be offered a written record of the stop, or you can get one at a police station any time within the following twelve months. Simple conversations such as "How are you, nice day" don't count!
Stop & Searches can be conducted under several different pieces of legislation and can cover looking for stolen or prohibited articles, blades, drugs, terrorist related material, stolen property or evidence of a criminal offence. Searches on the street are limited in what you can be asked to remove - basically speaking if it's more than outer clothing it can't be done in public.
You should be told the grounds for the stop or stop/search, the object of the search, the officers name name and the station where they work (unless the search is in relation to suspected terrorist activity or giving his or her name may place the officer in danger in which case you'll be given their warrant number), the station they are based at, your entitlement to a copy of the stop form will be explained as will the specific law under which you have been stopped. Finally you'll be formally told that you are detained for the purposes of the stop or stop/search.
That last bit matters because if you do run away you commit an offence. You will be chased and arrested. Searches will normally be done by an officer of the same sex but there is no requirement for this to be done for non intimate searches.

The question that would always be asked is why are you carrying a knife. If it's for a genuine reason eg artistic reasons or work then you'll be fine. So if you're a carpet fitter at work and you have a stanley knife that would probably be ok. If your a carpet fitter in the pub at 11 at night then you're going to get nicked.
A 3 inch stabbing knife is an offensive weapon with no possible use other than to hurt people so there's probably no reason for carrying it about in the street. In which case try my handcuffs for size and come for a ride in my car.

what are laws on class a drugs?

What are the laws on class A drugs.....Hmmm...where to start...
First of all there are shit loads of them. The list (Schedule 2 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 if you really care) includes the obvious like cocaine, heroin, ecstasy etc but also includes such joys as 1-diphenylpropanecarboxylic acid. Lets step back a bit. Drugs 101 with Andanar....
Drugs subject to the provisions of The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 are listed as class A, B or C (don't get me started on cannabis..) with A being the most damaging and C being the least. So Class A would include LSD, Morphine, Heroin and opiates, Class B codeine and some amphetamines and Class C things like most prescription drugs. Cannabis is a C at the moment but watch this space...
There are various points to prove in any criminal offence but for the purposes of this lets assume your guilty of the offences we're going to chat about.
Production of a Class A drug (and this includes the Meth you just cooked up) will get you a life sentence. And/or a fine. Lets say that again - life imprisonment. Now even given the state of the criminal justice system in the UK do you really want to spend the next 20 plus years in prison? Class B will earn you up to 14 years and Class C 5 years. Five years for cannabis production? Not bad for a few plants. And that's before it goes back to a Class B (and it will). Supply any of the above and you'll get the same sentence. Now I like the smell of weed but not that much.
Possession....is just having it as bad? Well no but hey, you still get to spend some time worrying if all the stories you heard about prison time are true. Class A - 7 years! And/or a fine. B - 5 years and 2 for Class C.
Now lets look at PWI or Possession with intent to supply. Look at that closely - that's supply, not even sell. Class A? Life inside. Class B 14 years and here's the killer - Class C (ie that cannabis you have in the loft)....14 years. That's not a typo, it's the same as Class B. Oh, and a fine too. Is cultivating cannabis worth a prison sentence? Yep - 14 years. Supply anything for use in administering or cultivating any controlled drug? A nice 6 month stint in the slammer. There are loads of offences around the use, manufacture, cultivation and supply of drugs including mushrooms, cannabis and what you just cooked up with your chemistry set but all of them carry a hefty sentence. It's one of the few areas where the law really jumps on you. You can take the chance if you like, but having stood with half a bin bag of weed in one hand and 200 ecstasy tablets in another and looked at the fella who "owned" that little stash trust me it isn't.
One final thought. I have no idea what experiences any of you have with the drug scene. Speaking for myself I have to say that alcohol often causes more problems than say weed but thems the rules. But think for a second....what's really in that pill you just bought? Trust the person that sold it? Trust the person that sold it to them, or made it? Sure it doesn't have brick dust, sawdust, horse tranquilisers, dog wormer, bleach or aspirin in it?
Sure you won't die........?
Ever picked a 12 day old body off the floor? I have. That's the reality. It aint worth dying for. Trust me.
Jack Danials anybody?
